This short documentary art film by Ilya uses strong, contrasting imagery set to a dramatic classical score to lay bare the chaos and hypocrisy of modern existence in London. Ilya absorbed and utilized elements of Soviet Montage in his editing technique which, combined with several defining philosophical notions put forward in the piece, helps to conjure thoughts and images as stark as they are provocative. The piece challenges those watching to see modern life unfiltered, laid bare. It is purposefully wide in its possible interpretations, while remaining incredibly precise in its execution, with the collection of all the various filmed elements taking weeks of filming and planning. Despite all of this, it still retains a dark sense of humour and a playful style that denies an entirely doom-and-gloom depiction.
