These two short films were early collaborations between Ilya and Jonny, made while they were still at school together. They both represent surreal dreamscapes of the character Fred, the same character that would go on to star in our first long-form project, Premortem.
Sur sets out to be a comic take on early Surrealist dreamscapes such as Un Chien Andalou, a series of images strung together with a loose thematic thread. Serembrava, on the other hand, is a more serious portrayal of a young man’s nightmare, in which the prize he seeks is forever out of reach. Both films show early signs of themes, concepts and style elements that would go on to be strengthened and explored in later Frinin & Bok works.
